Our tradition of instruction dates back to 1959 when Pine Needles Golf Academy founder Peggy Kirk Bell started one of the country’s first golf schools. An LPGA Master Teacher, a member of the Carolinas’ Golf Hall of Fame, and the first woman inducted into Golf Magazine’s Golf Teachers Hall of Fame, Bell’s aim was to strike the perfect balance between learning golf, playing golf and relaxing in the company of friends. Her easy approach to instruction lives on in every class we conduct.
Our instructors include not just Class A PGA professionals, but former PGA and LPGA TOUR champions. Director of Instruction Pat McGowan was named Rookie of the Year after joining the PGA TOUR in 1978. Lead Teaching Instructor Donna Andrews won six times on the LPGA TOUR, including the Nabisco Dinah Shore in 1994. She won the Virginia State Amateur Championship five times and the North and South Amateur twice. And, in 2017, she was the first woman to be inducted into the Virginia Golf Hall of Fame.
