For 50 years, Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club has welcomed couples from around the globe in the ‘Quest for the Bell’ as part of our fall Couples Jamboree golf event. This year marked a very special occasion, the 50th anniversary of our couples’ golf retreat.

Thirty-eight couples gathered at Pine Needles for five days of golf, clinics, cocktail receptions, awards banquet, and entertainment. And the weather could not have been better. Warm, sun-filled days and cool fall evenings made this year’s Couples Jamboree another excellent opportunity to re-acquaint with friends, old and new.

The main attraction for the weekend is, of course, the golf. The 54-hole mixed team event teed off at historic, Donald Ross designed Mid Pines Inn & Golf Club on Thursday and the following two rounds played at another Donald Ross gem, Pine Needles.

Richard and Dottie Farmer (Greensboro, Ga.) were awarded the top prize of Jamboree Champions, with a net score of 226, edging out second place couple, Jim and Pattie Parsons (Carlisle, Pa.), who finished with a net score of 227. Placing third was Tom and Jenifer Donnelly (Harrisburg, Pa.), who finished with a net score of 228.

The Parsons team was awarded Jamboree Medalists for their two-round net score of 148. Additional prizes were awarded to:

  • Loop Event Winners: Bradley and Kathy Nelson (Denison, Iowa)
  • Blind Date Winners: Richard Farmer (Greensboro, Ga.) and Maureen Wegenek (Kent, Ohio) and Ray Parlade (Daytona Beach, Fla.) and Kelly Lowe (Urbanna, Va.)

Couples were entertained each evening beginning with a Caribbean-themed cocktail party on Thursday night. Hosted at Pine Needles’ Putter Meeting Center, the evening featured Caribbean-inspired food, music, games and prizes. Frederick and Nadine Jones (Lebanon, Pa.) won top prize on the night, winning $150. Jim and Leslie Skidmore (Frisco, Tex.) captured second place winning $125, while Rene and Elinor Monette (Port Saint Lucie, Fla.) took third with $100 in prizes.

The following night, the couples attended a special food pairing event, Taste of Carolina, featuring classic Southern cuisine paired with North Carolina’s finest craft brews. Held on the Terrace at Mid Pines, guests took full advantage of the warm fall weather to enjoy a scenic view of the famed course.

As always, thank you to all of this year’s participants! We eagerly await the 51st edition of the  Couples Jamboree in 2017!
