Pine Needles Resort Instructor Selected to Virginia Golf Hall of Fame

Donna Andrews is the Hall’s first female inductee

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. – November 3, 2016 – Pine Needles Lodge & Golf Club’s lead golf instructor Donna Andrews has been selected as one of four members named to the second class of inductees to the Virginia Golf Hall of Fame.

The Lynchburg, Va. native is the first female to be selected to the Hall, which inducted its inaugural class in 2016.

“I am honored to have been selected to the Virginia Golf Hall of Fame,” said Andrews, who played collegiately at the University of North Carolina. “I am looking forward to getting back to Virginia, where my family still lives, to see everyone for the ceremony.”

Andrews made her LPGA Tour debut in 1990, winning six LPGA championships, including a major at the 1994 Nabisco Dinah Shore. As an amateur, Andrews won five consecutive VSGA Women’s Amateur titles (1985-89) and the 1988 North and South Women’s Amateur at Pinehurst. She was inducted into the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame in 2005.

Following her retirement from the LPGA Tour, Andrews joined Pine Needles as the Lead Teaching Instructor, where she continues to instruct students at the Pine Needles Golf Academy, during the year-round Golfari schools and in private lessons.

“Donna had an outstanding 15-year career on the LPGA Tour. Her six victories (including a major Championship) put her in a rare multiple winners’ category,” said Pat McGowan, Pine Needles’ Director of Golf Instruction. “She has the ability to transfer her knowledge to her students. She has the gift of communicating with all levels of golfers.  As both a great player and wonderful instructor, we feel she is very deserving of entering the Virginia Golf Hall of Fame.”

The induction ceremony will take place on May 18, 2017 at the Country Club of Virginia in Richmond. For more information, please visit:
